In this personal project, I recreated a vintage wallpaper design using Adobe Photoshop. I started with a photograph of an authentic piece of vintage wallpaper that I found online. There were several challenges to overcome with this project. The original image was only a partial repeat, and its skewed perspective had distorted the pattern. Despite these hurdles, I was able to faithfully reproduce the original design. Through careful manipulation, meticulous image cleanup, and reconstruction of the motifs, I transformed the pattern into a seamless half-drop repeat. This endeavor not only tested my skills in digital manipulation but also showcases my ability to faithfully revive historical designs with authenticity and accuracy.

For this self-directed project, I took a sample of vintage wallpaper and produced an accurate digital file for print. I photographed separate sections of the design and collaged them together to create a higher-resolution result. The original wallpaper is close to 20” wide. I wanted to keep the scale as close to the original as possible, so I adjusted it to 24” wide to match the standard width for print-on-demand wallpaper. The original vintage wallpaper was designed as a true half-drop repeat, where the pattern seamlessly repeated if the installer manually offset each strip by half the repeat height. To accurately recreate the design, I maintained this layout, but for digital mockups, I generated a full half-drop repeat to display the intended effect.
